When Your Intuition Opens

When people begin opening their intuitive or psychic abilities, one of the first things they notice is how sensitive they suddenly feel. Sounds are louder. Emotions feel closer. Crowded places can become overwhelming. Sometimes there are headaches, fatigue, or a sense of being drained after being around others.

This is often described as a “psychic attack,” but that wording can create unnecessary fear. What’s really happening is much simpler and much more manageable.

When intuitive awareness opens, it’s possible to stay open longer than is healthy, especially in the beginning. You start picking up information, sensations, and emotions that don’t belong to you. Not because anything is wrong, but because you haven’t yet learned how to close yourself back down.

Early on, it’s exciting. You’re receiving insights, noticing subtle impressions, and feeling connected in new ways. Many people want to stay open all the time. But intuition isn’t meant to be permanently engaged. It’s meant to be something you can access intentionally and step away from just as intentionally.

When someone stays open for too long, it can show up physically. Headaches or migraines are common. So is exhaustion. Some people notice cravings for salt, sugar, carbs, or alcohol. These aren’t random. They’re signs that the body is trying to ground itself and come back into balance.

I experienced this myself when I was first developing my abilities. There were days when I would finish a full day of readings and rush straight into dinner plans without properly closing. I’d walk into a restaurant and within minutes my head would start pounding. The noise, the emotions, the energy of everyone around me would feel unbearable, and migraines would follow.

Nothing bad was happening to me. I was simply still open.

Once I learned how to consciously close at the end of my workday, those symptoms stopped. The headaches stopped. The overwhelm stopped. And my abilities didn’t disappear. They were still there whenever I wanted to open again.

That’s one of the most important things people learn during the Awaken Your Wisdom Within retreat. Opening your intuition doesn’t mean losing control. You don’t become vulnerable or exposed. You don’t lose your ability once it’s activated.

You learn how to open and close with awareness. You learn how to create clear boundaries so you’re not picking up things everywhere you go. You learn how to stay grounded in your body while still accessing intuitive information.

This allows you to live your life fully present. You can go to dinner. You can be in crowds. You can move through the world without feeling overwhelmed. And when you want to work intuitively, you know exactly how to step into that space and step back out again.

Developing intuition isn’t about being open all the time. It’s about learning discernment, balance, and self-trust. When those pieces are in place from the beginning, intuitive development becomes supportive, energizing, and deeply empowering rather than draining.
